At Reswell Health, we are always searching for innovative, effective, and science-backed treatments that align with our mission of whole-person care. That’s why we’re excited to announce our partnership with UCLA Health to bring transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) therapy to Pasadena.
WHAT IS TMS?
Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is a non-invasive neuromodulation technology that has been FDA-approved since 2008 for treatment resistant major depressive disorder.
Over the years, research has expanded its applications to conditions such as:
- Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)
- Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
- Anxiety disorders
- Chronic pain
- Tinnitus
Unlike traditional pharmacological treatments, TMS offers a drug-free approach, making it an excellent option for individuals who have not found relief with medication or who prefer a non-pharmacological intervention.
Treatment sessions range from as short as five minutes to around 40 minutes, depending on the combination of therapies used.
As we considered expanding access to TMS, it was crucial to collaborate with a research-driven institution that prioritizes patient-centered care. UCLA’s TMS division, led by Dr. Andrew Leuchter, has been at the forefront of clinical research and innovation in this field. Their dedication to personalized treatment, rigorous training, and evidence-based protocols made them the perfect partner for us.
Through this partnership, we are now able to offer our ResWell Health community access to high-quality TMS therapy at UCLA TMS (Pasadena), with the added benefit of insurance coverage exclusively for TMS treatment—an essential step in making this life-changing therapy more accessible.
TMS FOR ADOLESCENTS: A NEW ERA
One of the most exciting developments in TMS research is its expanding use for adolescents. As of summer 2024, TMS has been approved for individuals aged 15-21 as a first-line treatment for depression—meaning it can be used even before trying multiple rounds of medication. This is a significant milestone in child and adolescent psychiatry, and we anticipate further developments that will make this treatment available for additional uses in the future.
REAL IMPACT, REAL STORIES
We have already witnessed remarkable transformations in patients who have undergone TMS therapy. While it’s not a one-size-fits-all solution, many individuals—especially those with treatment-resistant OCD—have experienced significant symptom reduction and improved quality of life.
With UCLA’s expertise and our commitment to integrative care, we believe TMS will be a powerful tool in our mission to provide holistic and effective mental health treatment.
Stay well,
