Adult & Childhood Mood Disorder Treatment Looks Different at ResWell
You or Your Child May Benefit From Our Integrative Mood Disorder Treatments:
Psychotherapy
- Psychotherapy, or “talk therapy,” is an evidence-based treatment that helps people identify and address negative emotions, thought patterns, and behaviors that contribute to mood disorders.
- With therapy, you or your child can learn effective coping skills and new ways of thinking that help provide guidance through recurring mood disorder symptoms and other challenges in the future.
- Psychotherapy can work well with other adult and childhood mood disorder treatments, including medication management and holistic care.
Medication Management
- Medication management for mood disorders in children and adults helps ensure medications are used appropriately and effectively, minimizing potential risks and side effects.
- If medication could be beneficial, you or your child will receive a personalized plan using medications and dosages tailored to your unique needs and how you respond to treatment.
- Our goal is to use the necessary amount of medication to effectively manage symptoms, as well as re-evaluate the need for medication regularly.
Personalized Fitness, Nutrition, & Mindfulness Programs
- Physical wellness helps support optimal mental health, so you or your child will receive expert guidance on physical activity, nutrition, and sleep as part of a mood disorder treatment plan.
- Our clinical dietitian will develop an effective nutritional plan for you or your child.

Frequently Asked Questions
What are the different types of mood disorders?
The most common mood disorders in children and adults can include:
Major depressive disorder (MDD)
This disorder is marked by persistent and pervasive feelings of sadness or hopelessness, coupled with a lack of interest or pleasure in most activities.
Bipolar disorder
Individuals with bipolar disorder experience extreme mood swings, ranging from episodes of high energy and euphoria (mania) to periods of deep sadness or hopelessness (depression).
Cyclothymic disorder
A milder form of bipolar disorder, cyclothymic disorder involves less severe but still noticeable mood swings between hypomania and mild depression.
Dysthymia (persistent depressive disorder)
This chronic form of depression is characterized by a generally low mood that lasts for a longer duration, with symptoms that are less severe than those of major depression.
Seasonal affective disorder (SAD)
SAD is a type of depression that occurs at a specific time of year, usually in the late fall or winter. It is often related to the reduction in daylight hours.
Premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD)
PMDD is a severe form of premenstrual syndrome (PMS), characterized by significant mood swings, irritability, and depressive symptoms that occur prior to menstruation.
Disruptive mood dysregulation disorder
Primarily diagnosed in children and adolescents, this disorder involves frequent and severe temper outbursts that are disproportionate to the situation and inconsistent with the child’s developmental level.
What is the most effective treatment for mood disorders?
Most patients with mood disorders benefit from a combination of treatments that are personalized to their specific situation and needs. Treatment may be most effective when combined with talk therapy, medication management, and other treatment modalities. We believe integrative treatment that includes nutrition, sleep hygiene, and daily physical activity helps make the biggest difference for our patients.
How do I know if my child or I have a mood disorder?
If you or your child displays some of the symptoms listed above, and those symptoms interfere with daily life, a mood disorder could be the reason. However, a comprehensive evaluation by an adult or childhood mood disorder treatment center is necessary for an accurate diagnosis. Pharmacogenetic testing can then assess how you or your child metabolizes different medications if used in treatment.
Do you see adult patients with mood disorders also?
Yes, we are board-certified with nearly 20 years of experience treating adults. Our behavioral therapists have expertise in mood disorders so they can provide comprehensive treatment plans for patients of all ages. We also offer Spravato (esketamine) for treatment-resistant depression in adults.
Do you offer telehealth appointments for patients with mood disorders?
The first meeting is always in person. We do provide telehealth follow-up appointments to make treatment as easy and convenient as possible for our patients and their parents. Specific availability depends on the treatment plan developed with your provider.
Do you accept insurance for your childhood mood disorder tests and treatments?
While we do not accept insurance, we do provide our patients with the documentation necessary to file a claim with their own insurance carriers.
